Meet: Ellen Kastelberg

I’d like to introduce you to Ellen Kastelberg Designer and Owner of Kastelberg Interiors.

She shared with us tips for decorating with art….

Designing with Art

- When hanging art, hang it so that the focal point of the piece is at eye level, unless you are doing a gallery wall.

- Truly go with your gut when selecting art for your home. You do not even need an exact "home" or place for a piece that you love. Eventually, you will find a spot to place it, so if you really love something, just buy it!

- That said..if you are designing a room around a piece of art, repeat at least one color in the work of art in your textiles and/or upholstery

- And vice versa...if you have found a piece of art for a room (s) in your home, make sure there is at least one color in the artwork that is also in your textiles/upholstery/accessories in the room.

“In this living room ,Carson’s Eastern Shore Marsh scene tied everything together!! The bright corals and blues in the painting was the perfect balance to the club chair upholstery, pillows, and parsons chairs”, Ellen to us. “The owners love it and it evokes a personal meaning.”

We made a House Call to see “All You Have to Do Is Dream” over the mantle in Emilie’s formal living room.

But when she wasn’t looking, we snapped photos of a few additional rooms…

How fun is this paper flower art?!

Easy and Fresh Weeknight Meals

It's 5:00 on a weeknight.  I force myself into the kitchen, pour a glass of wine and begin the arduous task of preparing dinner for my family.  The thing is:  I love to cook.  Dinner party?  I'll gladly spend an entire day--days even--preparing the perfect meal, but at the end of a long day, deciding on a meal to cook that is relatively simple to prepare, healthy and that will appeal to my children and my husband is challenging.  I do, however, have a few healthy go-to dinners up my sleeve that I want to share with you!
